A good monitor is nothing if you do not have a good graphics card driving it. You probably fall into one of two categories: You already have your graphic cards covered and you're riding out the storm until DirectX 10, or you desperately need something right now.

Hold out for DirectX 10: Seriously- DirectX 10 is hitting the market now. If you want to get the most out of Microsoft Vista and Crysis dont settle for anything less.

If DirectX 9 is good enough: If the DirectX 10 cards are out of budget and the 9 technology is good enough for your gameplay. Check out the EVGA e-GeForce 7600 GS.
In any case you will not want to spend more than a couple hundred bucks on anything less than Direct X 10. You will not be keeping the card long enough to get your money out of it.

Don't forget the power supply: If you are upgrading your graphics card, take a look at your power supply capabilities. You will want a minimum of 500w output to assure quality power to your graphics.

PCI-e Versus AGP: PCI Express (PCIe) is the latest interface for graphics cards; though in principle it is also usable for other peripheral components, at the present time there aren't any other mass market components that use this bus. On paper, PCIe X16 offers almost twice as much bandwidth per stream as does AGP 8X.
